The dawn of the modern eraLeading industrialist Friedrich Karl Flick opened a new chapter in the Audi story when, at his instigation, Volkswagenwerk AG acquired a majority stake in Auto Union GmbH in 1964. The company subsequently became a fully-owned VW subsidiary In 1966. Three years later, Auto Union GmbH merged with NSU AG Neckarsulm. The changes had been rung, and the first evidence of this out on the road was the best-selling Audi 100 model that was unveiled in 1968.
