Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. has been part of the Audi brand group since 1998. Shortly after the acquisition Audi proceeded to restructure the company and Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. became Automobili Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. Since November 1998, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. (sports cars), Motori Marini Lamborghini S.p.A. (powerboat engines), Lamborghini ArtiMarca S.p.A. (merchandising) and, since September 2000, VOLKSWAGEN GROUP ITALIA S.P.A., the Italian importer for the Audi, Seat, Škoda, Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle brands, have existed as operating companies.

The manufacturer of luxury sports cars builds the Murciélago Coupé and Roadster, the Gallardo Coupé and Spyder, and also produces engines and transmissions. The Italian plant at Sant'Agata Bolognese built a record 1,678 cars in 2004. This total was made up of 304 of the Murciélago Coupé, 1,294 of the Gallardo and, for the first time, 80 of the Murciélago Roadster. The workforce turned out a comparable number of super sports cars in 2005. On average, the number of employees working at Lamborghini in 2005 totalled 700.

Since 2004, in addition to the design centre, the new "Centro Stile Lamborghini" also houses a restoration workshop for historic vehicles and an after sales service for all previous Lamborghini models. The redesigned museum, which presents the entire history of the brand, and the ArtiMarca flagship store are also located at Sant'Agata.
