Setting standards

The Audi multitronic control unit uses the engine speed range near to the operating optimum in every driving situation via a complex sensor system. Whether in sporting or fuel-saving mode, with or without a trailer load, uphill or downhill – multitronic sets standards with regard to dynamism, comfort and economy.

Integral control centre

The electronic-hydraulic control unit for all multitronic assemblies is integrated in the gearbox housing. All the influencing factors from driver, engine and vehicle come together here and are processed in comparison with various mappings into control variables.

The dynamic control program (DRP) thus recognises from the position and movement of the accelerator whether the driver has a sporty or fuel consumption-oriented style of driving. The system then selects the transmission ratios for the link-plate chain and transfers the necessary hydraulic impulses to the variator. For the manual mode, the electronics make six pre-defined ratios available that the driver can select at the gear lever or by using paddles on the steering wheel.
